Wing Series ATC Set

Image
I haven't had a chance to do any artwork in a couple of weeks. I did make a set of atc about three weeks ago. Best Kept Secrets ATC This is the atc that inspired me to do this series of Wing artist trading cards. " "All aberrations come home to roost" "The hat I wore to the pageant" "She was voluptuous" This one cracks me up! "Do not change" I can't decide which is my favorite. Have you checked out the link to the Altered By Me Community? I would love it if you hopped over and joined in on some of the conversations! Thanks for stopping by!!

New Artist Trading Cards

Image
I had a chance the other day to make a couple of Artist Trading Cards. I had the urge to create something so bad. I didn't want to mess around with finding the perfect supplies or images so I rummaged through the stuff laying around on my work table and made these two atc's with what I had on hand. The second one is my favorite! I really love the way this one turned out. Yesterday I dyed some fabric, lace and trim with some lemon balm leaves and stems that I needed to trim. I didn't want it to go to waste. Last year I dyed some other fabric and was really happy with the way it turned out. Sorry no pictures of the dyed fabric right now. If I get a chance I will take a few and then compare the two batches of fabrics. Last year I used the new growth on the plant and I really think that fabric dyed a darker color. I forgot how much I enjoy dying fabric with natural dyes. I think I may try to use some leaves off an orange tree to see if that will impart a decent dye. Than...

Here is their blog post telling all about both videos We Put A Bird On It I am so excited to be included in the video. I sent in the two pieces of art from my mini book that I posted the other day and they included both pieces in their video. Thank you Cloth Paper Scissors!

Mini Book Pages Birds and Butterflies

Image
Wow it is hard to believe that the holidays are over and January has come and gone already. The month has flown by. I wonder if this new year will fly by as fast as the first month. I am sorry I have been neglecting my blog. It's not that haven't been being arty but I just don't seem to have the time to post much lately. As soon as the Christmas decorations were packed away I started working on a new project. I decided I was tired of the cold winter temps and couldn't wait for spring so I started making a mini Birds & Butterflies book. I have finished all the pages. 12 in total of various sizes. Some just tiny little tag like pages like the one above. I'm proud of the fact that I actually finished it. 12 pages with both sides arted up means I actually created 24 book pages. I have a bad habit of biting off more then I can chew and not finishing big projects. Now as I was working on the book I planned to use eyelets and a book ring to bind the book together....

Halloween Altered Mini Book

Image
It has been awhile since I have had a chance to make any art. It's not that I haven't wanted to get down and dirty with my craft supplies but life has been busy. We moved at the beginning of August into a bigger rental. I now have a craft room. Woo Hoo but things are still packed and shelves and storage need to be figured out. I have been recycling packing paper for a while now and have a big stash of it. It was conveniently located so when I was looking through the new Paper Imagery Designs Halloween sheets I knew I wanted to use some to make a mini altered book. Pages 1 & 2 pages 3 & 4 pages 5 & 6

Painting Fabric and Making Fabric Books

Image
I haven't had a chance to do much art since my tie dying with the kids weeks ago. Yesterday I picked up a yard of canvas.  I have been wanting to do a simple book made of painted canvas and after reading something from Somerset the other night I found my inspiration. Not sure if I can find a link to share but Somerset made available a special online version for their facebook fans. Ah here is a link on Jane Eileen's blog.   The article I was interested in was written by Jane Eileen and previously published in the Summer 09 Sew Somerset. I've had a chance to throw some paint on the canvas pieces. Now I hope I can find the time to alter the pages and put the book together. This project should work out good for me since there is not alot of assembly required when it comes to binding the book.  Wish me luck! There is a lot of craziness going on around here with the kids home and my niece visiting from Georgia!

Tie Dye Fun

Image
Last weekend I finally had a chance to pull out the Tulip Custom Dyeing Kit that I won on the ILoveToCreate.com Blog way back in September of last year. I am embaressed that it has taken me this long to get around to trying it out but this past year has been a very hectic and busy one for me I do all sorts of projects with my 12 year old daughter all the time. My 7 year old niece Rylee is visiting from Georgia. She doesn't get to do much in the crafting department so I knew I had to try this kit out while she was here. Over the past couple of months I have been collecting supplies for one big day of dying. I used mostly recycled shirts. Some of them were bought at the local Goodwill and believe it or not I actually found some at the Dollar Tree. I am assuming that the shirts from the Dollar Tree were seconds but I have not found a thing wrong with them. I also bought some onsies for the two babies in the family. About a month ago I bought a Fashion Tie Dye kit on cle...

Michelle Ward's GPP Street Team Crusade # 41

Image
Life has been crazy for me lately. I am finding it very hard to find time for art these days.  And it is a little frustrating to me. It is amazing how a persons life can change so much in less then one year. It's not that I don't have any ideas or inspiration. It's that I can't seem to find the time to start a project, have it lay out on my table and work on it until I am done. I have been helping out with my grand children as some of you might know already. You can read here about the newest grand daughter Addison who was born in April with some health problems.   My other grand daughter is eleven months old and starting to walk. Hailey is Addison's big sister and will be 4 in a couple of months. I didn't realize how much work being a Grammy was going to be LOL.   So when I saw Michelle Wards GPP Team Crusade # 41 Grid Lock for the month of June I knew I had to do it.. Check out the link above to find out about this and all the other Crusades Michell...

Altered Bottle Caps

Image
Here is a little sneak peek of some altered bottle caps I am working on for a swap on the Paper Imagery Designs Ning site. The bottle caps are recycled and colored with Alcohol Inks. Little circles of dictionary pages are glued into the center of the cap. I can't show the finished product cause I don't wanna ruin the surprise for the rest of the swappers. Well they are still wet and drying any way.

Where did all the Arty Blogs go?

If your like me and subscribe to your favorite artists blog posts you may be wondering where some of your favorite blogs you read have gone. I know I was until this morning that is. I read my favorite blogs through FeedBlitz. They come to me in my email. I don't use a blog reader although friends have told me that is the way they read their blogs but I would rather just check my email then have to go sign into another website to find them all. And there are a lot of blogs I subscribe too. So this morning I was subscribing to another blog and decided to check out my subscribtions to see if all was well in the land of blogs. What did I find? Well I found that some of my favorite blog post were not coming to me in my email. With FeedBlitz the only way to find this out is to go to your subscription page and make sure there is a little green dot next to each subscription. If there is a problem you will find a red dot. I figured out what the problem was by searching for those blogs...

Kewpie ATC

Image
Here is a cute little Kewpie ATC I made the other night. I started out trying to make something for the Paper Imagery Designs weekly challenge. The theme was Summer colors but for some reason my mind forgot the color part while I was making this atc. The background is a pre printed atc background from sheet # 770 Spring Kids  The little Kewpie is from the Kewpie sheet. Can you tell what her little bikini is made from?? Yes No Maybe so?? Well it was a tiny little butterfly from the same sheet as the background.

Wear Me PID Challenage Art Quilt

Image
It took some will and determination but I finally managed to create some art this weekend. I started on Friday and with all the stops and starts I had to do what with taking care of the family and doing chores I managed to pull together this 5 X 7 mini art quilt. The challenge on the Paper Imagery Designs yahoo group last week was Wear Me. The theme was to creat a piece of art that could be worn or was of something worn. I have been admiring the vintage shoe sheet since it made it's way to my house almost a month ago.  I knew I had to use it in a piece of fabric art. At first I thought I would make an atc, then after I made the transfer I decided a 4 x 6 would be better. Then the more I thought about it I though you know what? I am going to do a 5 x 7. And the 5 x 7 size worked out perfect for what I had brewing around in my mind. When I first started pulling out my stash of fabric and trims I was thinking Marie Antoinette. Pink and  frilly but as I started putting it to...

Making Time For Art

Happy Mother's Day I have been so busy for the last couple of months helping my children and tending to sick grand children that I have not had any time for myself. And I am not just talking about art stuff. Just the normal every day stuff. Like sitting and enjoying a cup of tea or coffee while reading a book. I am a big reader and even though I have been reading regularly it is not the same. My time has not been stress free and I am pretty sure that is the problem. I am also having computer issues with a second hand computer I have. That also adds stress. I can not upload any pictures at the moment. I have got to make some time for myself. I have got to get back to creating art. Creating anything. Even if I just open a page in one of my art journals and paint a background, glue something down and maybe use a stamp or two. So as a Mother's Day Gift to myself I am going to create something today! On a side note....  Baby Addison is doing well. Along with being a sleepy new...

Introducing Miss Addison

Image
I'd like to introduce you to my beautiful new grand daughter Addison Skye who was born on April 29th at 3:34 am by emergency c-section, a week earlier then expected. She weighed 6 lbs 9 oz  and 18 inches long. Addison was born at All Children's Hospital in St Petersburg Florida. I started writing up a blog post on her birth and will get it posted soon. Her heart defects were not as serious as expected and heart surgery will be done by the time she is six months old.  Our family has been blessed by the many people out there praying for little Addison. It looks like our little angel does have Down's Syndrome but we are waiting for the official word from the doctors when the blood work results come back. If you have the means to support a charity I would like to suggest the Ronald McDonald House. The next time you cruise through a McDonald's drive through please toss your change in the donation box. If not for them I would not have been able to stay with my daughter duri...
