Image
Yesterday I shared my first published piece of art in Somerset Studios with you. It makes me giddy just thinking about it. LOL But I also need to share some other news. I will also have a piece of my fabric art in the new Exploring the Latest Trends in Mixed Media Vol II book published by Sherre Hulber t & Cynthia Powell . The book will be available very soon and when it is I will post a link for you. You can also check out the great tutorials and information about the first volume and other books that Sherre & Cynthia have published on the Latest Trends In Mixed Media Art website. Even tho the book hasn't come out this was the first piece of my art that had been selected for publication. The day I got that email I was doing the happy dance. Thanks for stopping by! Arlene

Antique Books & Mixed Media Art

Image
Like most of you who read my blog and create mixed media I have a huge collection of old books that I pick up here and there when I am shopping the local thrift stores. Matter of fact my collection of books that I plan to one day either use the pages or the covers in my art has started to take over my life. When I started out on my trip to the thrift store this morning I told myself that I would not go near the books. I did not NEED anymore books. This particular thrift store is only open three days a week, Thursday being one of them. I don't shop there every week but today I was looking for some clothes hangers and I knew they usually had some. So off I go after I drop my daughter off at school. This shop is very small and can get very claustrophobic if there are too many people packed in there at once. For some reason the store was packed today. I wandered around for awhile checking out the glassware. I usually find some great vintage china there for very cheap so I always chec...

Sneak Peak

Image
There have been a few things that I have been working on the past few months that were for publication and I haven't been able to share them. Here is a sneak peak at a couple of pieces of art that I've done for the Daily Window website. If your not familiar with Daily Windows bags click on one of the icons at the top of this post or the link and you can see some of the great handbags they sell. These bags are a great way to showcase your artwork or to even show off pictures of the grand kids.     This second piece is a little different from what you are use to seeing from me. I have worked with fabric on and off for years. I even did the quilt thing for a while. I recently scored a bunch of vintage lace and trims at an estate sale and couldn't wait to do something with it. Another fabric piece I made has been accepted for publication but you will have to wait to see that. I'm so excited I can't wait for the book to come out.   Both images used a...

6 x 6 Wall Hanging If you Love Something...

Here is what I worked on this weekend. I have been reading Kelly Rae Roberts new book Taking Flight. I have always wanted to paint pretty little girls. But for some reason I had it in my head that I could not do it. Why does our inner critic sabotage us in this way? The funny thing is that I have always been a doodler. Do you know what I doodled most of the time?? Eyes, lips and heads LOL. I would just cover a piece of paper with eyes, lips and heads. BUT I just kept telling myself I could not paint and blend well enough to actually do one of these little girl pictures. I have to tell you that I read the first chapter of Kelly's book and worked on a piece in my journal. I was very happy with the way it turned out. I have done three now and I really don't know if I ever would have gotten around to it if I hadn't read Kelly's book. Yes I finished the book and I keep going back to reread chapters. Here is what I completed this weekend. It is done on a piece of 6 x 6 ...
